ABOUT WOCAN

Women Care Association of Nigeria (WOCAN) is a philanthropic organization. It is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-partisan and non-profit oriented organization set up by a group of compassionate, selfless women pooled from various ethnic and professional backgrounds with the overall aim of improving the lot of the down trodden masses in response to the 1995 Beijing plan for action.
With special focus on the plight of the African women in all geo-political settings in the continent, WOCAN aims at evolving and engaging in various programmes and activities which will not only raise the hopes and aspiration of mothers, children and youths, but will also bridge the gap between the poverty stricken and opulent thereby creating an enabling environment for all. WOCAN is a voice of change with its programmes and activities geared towards providing the target audience entrepreneurial capabilities for economic self sustenance.
WOCAN is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, both the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs including Delta state Ministry of Women Affairs and the Delta state Ministry of Youth and Sports Development with certificates issued to this effect

OBJECTIVES

With special focus on women, WOCAN particularly aims at:

  1. Promoting poverty alleviation programmes with focus on women, children and youths
  2. Supporting women through health care and nutrition programmes
  3. Promoting socio-political programmes and activities that will create an enabling environment for the peaceful co-existence of the multi-ethnic nationalities of Nigeria
  4. Delivering health facilities nearer to the neglected areas and people
  5. Encouraging the training of HIV/AIDS field workers and counsellors
  6. Promoting educational programmes that will bring about reformation and bridge the gap between the literate and non-literate populace

NETWORKING

WOCAN collaborates with both International organizations and Community Based organizations (CBOs) including agencies such as UNICEF, USAID, UNDP/UNV, International Council of Women (ICW), National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Zonta International, Ewheyae Isoko Women Association (EIWA). WOCAN is into collaboration with Locally Based Organizations in order to reach out to the rural populace for grassroots empowerment. Since 2006 till date WOCAN has been collaborating with West African Women Association (WAWA) Nigerian Chapter.

FUNDING

This comes from members’ dues, Levies, Donations from philanthropists, Fund raising activities, Jumbo sales, Spousal support, Funding agencies and the Private sector (Banks, Oil & Gas companies etc.)
